چکیده

We have read with great enthusiasm the recently published article entitled “Association of inflammation with atrial fibrillation (AF) in hyperthyroidism” by Ozaydin and coworkers. In that very well-designed study, Ozaydin and coworkers tried to evaluate the relationship between serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (HsCRP), as a marker of inflammation and the development of AF in patients with hyperthyroidism. They concluded that HsCRP, an indicator of inflammation, free T4 and left atrial (LA) diameter are associated with the development AF in patients with hyperthyroidism. AF is the most commonly encountered cardiac arrhythmia, and is expected to affecting millions of people world-wide. AF is a complex condition with several possible contributing factors. It is an arrhythmia with a very clearly observed predisposition for the aged patients. Hyperthyroidism is a relative uncommon but important cause of AF. AF occurs in up to 15% of patients with hyperthyroidism compared to 4% of people in the general population and is more common in men and in patients with hyperthyroidism. Several potential mechanisms could be considered for the effect of thyroid hormones on AF risk, including elevation of LA pressure secondary to increased left ventricular mass and impaired ventricular relaxation, ischemia resulting from increased resting heart rate, and increased atrial eopic activity. AF is responsible for considerable morbidity and mor-

Investigating the Effect of Inflammation on Atrial Fibrillation Occurrence by Measuring Highly Sensitive C-reactive Protein (hs-CRP)

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmias that cardiologists and internists encounter. The goal of this article is to clarify an overview of the evidence linking inflammation to AF existence, which may highlight the effect of some pharmacological agents that have genuine potential to reduce the clinical burden of AF by modulating inflammatory pathways. Mat...

Assessment of P-wave indices as atrial fibrillation predictors in psoriasis patients

Background: Psoriasis is a prevalent chronic T cell mediated inflammatory skin disorder. Recent studies have reported an increase in the incidence of arrhythmia in psoriasis patients who run an excessive risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. P-wave dispersion (PWD) and duration are important electrocardiographic (ECG) markers employed to anticipate the risk of atrial arrhythmi...

رابطه TSH سرم با تاکی آریتمی های فوق بطنی

Background: Supraventricular tachyarrythmias(SVT), especially atrial fibrillation, are among the  most prevalent arrhythmias. Atrial fibrillation could be found in patients with hyperthyroidism. The role of thyroid disorders in other supraventricular tachyarrythmias is not clear. Thus, this survey was  designed to determine the relationship between serum TSH as the marker of thyroid function a...

Association of inflammation with atrial fibrillation in hyperthyroidism

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between inflammation and development of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with hyperthyroidism. METHODS A total of 65 patients with newly diagnosed hyperthyroidism, 35 of whom were in sinus rhythm and 30 of whom in AF. Thirty five age- and gender-matched patients in a control group were included in the study. Factors associa...
